Local consumers, traders and foreign experts were up in arms this week to embattle the official authority’s conjecture over quail egg healing power, as Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) emerged from its non-researched closet about a fortnight ago to warn the public against seeking medical relief from it.

While local scientists are yet to conduct researches on the healing capacity of the egg, the British who have carried out groundbreaking studies maintain it should be pronounced a super-food, as it is a cure for a range of diseases including obesity, a discrepancy seldom regarded a disease among African communities.

They insist on consumption of at least two eggs a day owing to its rich nutritional components.

Other experts in natural treatment methods claim that quail eggs have positive effects on people with stress problems, hypertension, digestive disturbance, gastric ulcer, liver problems, blood pressure and lipid control, migraine, asthma, anemia.

It also cures various types of allergies, eczema, heart problems, bronchitis illnesses, depression, and panic and anxiety illnesses.

Quail eggs are also known to stimulate growth, increase sexual appetite, stimulate brain functions which improves intelligence quotient and generally rejuvenates the body.

But those who thought they were sick and have never heard of the distant stories in Britain and elsewhere, have resorted to taking the doses in Tanzania on prescriptions based on social stereotypes.

They say the results were impressive as it cured them of diabetes, ulcers, asthma, hypertension and even HIV, the diseases infamous for their immunity to conventional medicines.

Magdalena Emmanuel, a resident of Kimara in Kinondoni municipality said she was cured of gastric ulcers, hypertension, breathing difficulties and severe headache after taking 175 eggs in about five months.
